Rubbed is a "technique" available on all relief decorative tiles and some raised pattern tiles. After glaze is applied, but before firing, glaze in the high relief areas is rubbed off, exposing the clay body, creating a subtle contrast in color and texture.

Since the rubbing process exposes the clay body, rubbed in our Colonia series tile will expose a terra cotta body, while rubbed in our Vitrail series will expose a white clay body. The rubbed technique is not available on our Chateau series.

Tiles with an antique finish are rubbed with brown glaze in the non-relief areas, with some of that glaze rubbed off as well.
