Cuerda Seca Tile

The Cuerda Seca technique originated in Persia and came to California via Spain. It was adopted by many of the potteries in southern and northern California in the 1920's. A wax outline is drawn on the tile and glaze is applied with a syringe. During the firing process, the glaze beads up against the wax barrier creating subtle flooded areas. Most of the time the outline is done with black wax and serves as a black outline in the design.

In the Colonia series there are two standard color outline waxes: black or natural clay. In the Chateau series the standard outline waxes are black or white. Other wax colors are available at 15% additional cost.
